The Purple sun bird

One of the most beautifull birds of the world. The purple  sun bird. Measuring hardly 2 to 3 inch long, the male is purple, black in colour and the female is light brown in colour. The beaks are long and a bit curved, enabling it to feed on the nectar of flowers.

So if you have a garden with plenty of flowers with nectar, you will certainly sight the purple sun bird in your garden. Its more likely that they make their nest near a house for protection by the humans. Protectio  from other birds.

They nest in the summer. Two eggs are laid. The female usually feeds the young ones and the male usually have the human trait of just sitting and watching. I have seen it feed the young ones now and then. But the major work is done by the mothèr bird.

I will try to include photos of the bird in the time to come.

Indian Hawthorn berry

Very little known berry found in Maharashtra. The Indian hawthorn berry, is a tree found in the jungles, forest of eastern Maharashtra. Its berries are black when ripe. A thick white milk flows out of the berry as it is plucked from the plant. Its sold by the locales. Its known as the kaali maina in maharashtra.

Take a ride on the Tamni ghat and you can see umpteen people selling these berries. It looks black, looks also dèep blue and so the blue berry name , I suppose. Not much, infact near nothing is found on the net on these berries in India.

You can buy these from the locales along the highway. Or take yoir pick, you can just pluck them from the plants which are dotted all along the high way of the Tamni ghat.

Its medicinal properties are cited as best for heart, cardio vascular, blood pressure etc.
